John Thornton was appointed Executive Chairman of Barrick Gold Corporation on April 30, 2014. He has extensive experience in business, finance and public affairs. He has served on the boards of international public companies including China Unicom, Ford Motor Company, HSBC, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Intel and News Corporation. Thornton retired as President of Goldman Sachs in 2003, and is currently a Professor and Director of the Global Leadership Program at the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management in Beijing, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management. He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
Aron Cramer is recognized globally as a preeminent authority on sustainable business. In addition to leading BSR, Cramer advises senior executives at BSR’s more than 250 member companies and other global businesses on the full spectrum of social and environmental issues. He joined BSR in 1995 as the Founding Director of BSR’s business and human rights program, and he later opened BSR's Paris office, where he worked until becoming President and CEO in 2004. Cramer serves on advisory boards to CEOs at Barrick Gold, Marks & Spencer, SAP, and Unilever North America, and he facilitates the AXA CEO advisory panel. He is also a Director of the Natural Capital Coalition and We Mean Business, and a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Consumption. He is coauthor of Sustainable Excellence: The Future of Business in a Fast-Changing World, which spotlights innovative sustainability strategies that drive business success.
