Previously, Jones was the Secretary of Commerce for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Deputy Secretary in charge of operations at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Commissioner of Virginia’s Department of Social Services, Deputy Chief of Staff to Virginia Governor Mark Warner, and he served in the U.S. Treasury Department during the Clinton Administration. His private-sector experience touches on media, law, and philanthropy, with top positions at the Virginian-Pilot, a Richmond law firm, and a private philanthropy in Washington, D.C.
